About Us

At Access Heart Foundation, we are dedicated to transforming the healthcare landscape for underserved communities across Nigeria, with a primary focus on heart health. Despite cardiovascular disease being the leading cause of death globally, access to life-saving cardiac interventions remains out of reach for hundreds of millions of Nigerians, particularly in Northern Nigeria. The crisis is especially acute for children: over 80% of Nigerian children born with congenital heart defects die, compared to less than 5% in high-income countries. This disparity is not inevitable, it’s the result of geographic and economic barriers that we are systematically dismantling.

Our approach combines immediate impact with sustainable systems-building. Our mission is to provide life-saving cardiac procedures while training critical healthcare workers—from nurses to community health workers—creating a network of professionals equipped to recognize cardiac emergencies and save lives across communities.

We believe that every individual, regardless of their financial background or location, deserves access to life-saving healthcare. Through strategic partnerships, interventional programmes, awareness campaigns, and dedicated medical outreach, we are committed to making this vision a reality.

Transforming Heart Healthcare in Nigeria

Heart Surgery Shortage

With fewer than 500 heart surgeries performed annually in Nigeria. Access Heart Foundation is dedicated to addressing the critical shortage of heart care services in the country.

Building Capacity

We are training local medical professionals to ensure sustainable heart care in underserved regions. This includes saving moms and children at their most critical moments.

Shaping the Future

We envision a future where all Nigerians, regardless of location or income, have access to life-saving heart care, reducing the impact of cardiovascular disease on our communities.

Real People. Real Impact.

Access Heart Foundation is committed to addressing the critical shortage of heart surgeries in Nigeria. With a population of over 200 million, Nigeria performs fewer than 500 heart surgeries annually, a stark contrast to smaller countries like South Africa and Egypt, each performing over 5,000 surgeries yearly. This disparity has left thousands of Nigerians, particularly in Northern Nigeria, without access to the essential cardiac care they need. Many of those who can afford the procedures are forced to travel abroad or to more developed parts of the country, further exacerbating the inequity in healthcare access.

At Access Heart Foundation, we are working to close this gap by focusing on the most vulnerable populations.
